Reflection

Task
What did you learn from this?
How will you use this in your own construction task?
Trailer analyses
I learned about the conventions of a horror trailer and how they are used.
I will try to use the same vague themes and the same pattern as the ones I have analysed.
Titles analyses
I learned about what colours and fonts are generally used in the horror genre, and where they are placed.
I will base my titles on the ones I have analysed, as they work well. I will use the same kind of colours and font styles.
Research into potential target audience
I learned who the potential target are and what they like, and what they are likely to want to go and see at the cinema.
I will use all the things that are popular with the potential target audience into my trailer.
Questionnaire on storyboard
I learned that people liked most of what was on our storyboard, but they weren't sure about how the title linked in with the story.
I will try to make it more obvious how the title ties in when we make our trailer.
Risk Assessment
I learned about the risks we were likely to encounter when filming our coursework.
I will be careful to observe the dangers and warn my teammates so that we are all careful.
Conventional locations
I learned about what locations are typical to find in a horror movie, and what locations create what mood in a film.
I will know what locations to use when and where to film for each scene so that the atmosphere is correct.
Conventional props
I learned about what props and objects you are most likely to see in a horror film and what they symbolise etc.
I will know if the objects we include in our trailer are suitable for the scene and what props we should use to create the necessary mood.
Conventional actors
I learned about what kind of characters/actors often appear in horror movies, and who audiences expect to see when they watch a horror film.
I will know how better to portray the characters in our trailer and how they should act to better appeal to the audience.
Conventional costumes
I learned about the costumes usually worn by protagonists and even antagonists in horror movies, and what they say about the character.
I will know how to design the costumes so that they reflect how we want the characters to be portrayed.
Shotlist
The shot list helped us to manage all the different shots we had.
We will know how to manage the shots and what order will be best to film them in.
Storyboard
This helped us visualise how we wanted each shot to look.
We will know how each shot must look, and how to put them together.
Animatic
The animatic helped us further visualise how we wanted the shots to look in he final trailer.
We will know how the shots work together to create a larger video.
Scripting
The scripting allowed us to further develop the characters and to explore how the act and speak.
We will know the characters better so when we act we can portray them as we intended.
Magazine analyses
This taught me about layouts and conventions of magazines, and gave me some ideas of what I want to do with my magazine cover.
We will know better how magazine covers are and what they look like, so we can make ours the best we can.
Magazine planning – fonts; images; language etc
This helped me further visualise what our magazine cover was going to look like, and what content we would include.
We will be prepared with all our appropriate content when we make our magazine cover, and we will know exactly how we want it to look.
Film poster analyses
This taught me about layouts and conventions of posters, and gave me some ideas of what I want to do with my poster.
We will know better how posters are and what they look like, so we can make ours the best we can.
Film poster planning – fonts; images; language etc.
This helped me further visualise what our poster was going to look like, and what content we would include.
We will be prepared with all our appropriate content when we make our poster, and we will know exactly how we want it to look.

Phew...

Finished my magazine cover and my poster, haha. I think they look pretty good.

Magazine Cover too?

I have started planning my Movie Magazine Cover. We are going to have to have a photoshoot to get a suitable picture for the cover. Ideally it needs to be a shot of the character looking into the camera, as this will engage the intended audiences of the magazine. I have also been brainstorming titles for the magazine. You can see all of this on the page 'Movie Magazine Cover Planning.'

Poster planning, ooh exciting.

We started planning our film posters this week. I have sketched what I would like the poster to look like. I took a bit of inspiration from 'The Skeleton Key', having something reflected in an eye. I may change the tagline if I think of a better one, but the one I've got now is good enough for the time being. You can find the sketch on the page 'Poster Planning'.

Almost finished!

Our horror trailer is very nearly complete. A couple more shots and some appropriate music and we should be done. I have been editing a lot today and I think it looks really good.

Filming and Editing ooohh.

Yesterday we did a lot of filming in the woods near the Apex. We took two cameras so that we could get lots of different angles for the same shots and behind-the-scenes footage. This week we will be editing the footage we got. We are planning on finishing all the filming this Friday, so the finished product should be done by next week.

Filming and Editing ooh.

We have started filming and editing our footage. We are editing it as we film all the shots to save time. We spent a lot of today choosing appropriate music for our trailer.
